Jaeger-LeCoultre is opening the first iPhone watchmaking initiation school JLC application for IPhone...

Driven by the passion for horological technologies and faithful to its avant-garde spirit, Jaeger-LeCoultre is opening the first iPhone watchmaking initiation school.

The watch manufacturer has called upon the talents of Phonevalley, the world’s leading mobile marketing agency, in designing and creating its application that aims to share the fascinating world of fine watchmaking with the public at large. The result is available from the App store as of October 2nd 2009.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre application invites you to revisit the brand’s most iconic models, from the Reverso Squadra to the Reverso Gyrotourbillon 2, along with the Master Compressor Diving Pro Geographic. Far from merely representing a chance to (re) discover these models, the application offers users a watchmaking initiation, which will then enable them to admire these Jaeger-LeCoultre timepieces from a whole new angle: that of an amateur watchmaker.

Thanks to this application, iPhone owners explore the various stages in creating a watch. They have access to a particularly comprehensive dictionary of horology and to six watch initiation classes.

The dictionary of horology explains a number of specialised terms, from shock-absorber to barrel, from Clous de Paris to equation of time and from tourbillon to moon phases. The classes enable users to practice watchmaking techniques directly on their iPhone screen: assembling a chronograph mechanism, decorating and jewelling a movement, polishing, engraving and gem-setting a case.

For the latter class, the aim is to gem-set a Reverso Neva, making no mistakes and in record time, by skilfully sliding the diamonds onto the watch case.

The watch classes are displayed at a rate of one new class every fortnight.
A prize draw will reward one of the learners having correctly answered all three competition questions and who will then be offered a guided tour of the Manufacture at the heart of the Vallée de Joux.

The application also offers a chance to explore a collection of over 60 models, including eight interactive models from among the eight most emblematic creations from the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre. The user can test the most innovative of these watches, and thus for example activate the depth gauge of the Master Compressor Diving Pro Geographic; change the time zone on a Master Geographic; start a vertical-trigger chronograph by simply pressing the sapphire crystal of an AMVOX2 Chronograph; or swivel the case of a Reverso Grande GMT.

Finally, the application provides a function that identifies the Jaeger-LeCoultre points of sale in the country and/or city of your choice and enables you to locate them instantly.

How to download the application

Press the App Store icon on the iPhone menu to enter into the App Store. Press the Search button at the bottom of the screen. Type the keyword "Jaeger" and then select the "Jaeger-LeCoultre" application in the list.

When the flash is prohibited

Many new football stadiums built in recent years have a strong architectural and sculptural beauty, becoming city landmarks in their own right and enhancing the visual landscape of the local environment. We wanted the design of our football table to be equally spectacular and memorable, enriching the interior space where it will be placed.  As well as ensuring visual impact and consistency of design, the bright-silver chrome finish of the figures mirror footballers' status in sport and society.  The lines of players are machined from solid brass, finished in bright-silver chrome and a perfect mirror finish.   '11' creates atmosphere through form, colour, material and subtle use of light, bringing a heightened sense of drama and excitement to the game. The table's flowing lines express the dynamic aspect of football, while reducing unnecessary detail to allow the raw energy of the game to come to the fore. Simply strap on the included leg strap which tracks your movement on screen and you’re away. EA SPORTS active can work your upper or lower body before moving onto the athletics track for a run, a stress relieving work out with the punch bag or a session of bicep boosting curls courtesy of the included resistance band. And it does it all when it suits you by allowing you to customise your workouts by setting calorie, time or frequency based goals. EA SPORTS isn’t just about getting you to break a sweat though. A good personal trainer will take a holistic approach to your wellbeing. Your EA sports active trainer will also keep an eye on what you eat. This approach is mirrored by the game. It will ask you questions about what you’ve drunk and eaten, and you can log your intake with a daily journal – a useful tool that can give you feedback and tips to help improve your exercise and diet plan. There’s also the 30-Day challenge programme; which builds up the intensity of your exercise and you’ll work to structured goals with your personal trainer.  

As well as getting you moving and tracking your diet, EA SPORTS active also makes exercise fun. This is perhaps its most impressive achievement with dozens of themed strength training and cardio workouts which can be customised as you choose.  It’ll get you working up a sweat and burning calories, while keeping things interesting, making it harder to ignore you personal trainer when you’re thinking about skipping a session.

The Porsche Museum
A Slice of History

The successful record of Stuttgart’s sports-car manufacturer – Porsche is both the smallest independent German automaker and the world’s most profitable automaker – is based on decades of experience in automotive manufacturing and in motorsports. 

This unique history is both an honor and an obligation. Porsche customers, shareholders, and Porsche fans had often expressed their wish for an inspiring place in which to display the corporate history, and in July 2004 Porsche’s Management Board responded by approving the construction of a new museum at Zuffenhausen’s Porscheplatz. Since October 2005, construction has been underway on a museum that will be an architectural emblem of the Porsche brand and make history as the most spectacular building project ever undertaken by the company.

There’s no doubt about it, even now: the new edifice by Vienna’s Delugan Meissl is an eye-catcher.  This bold and dynamic architecture reflects the company’s philosophy and provides a foretaste of the experience that awaits visitors to the museum. It is designed to convey a sense of arrival and approachability, and to guide the visitors smoothly from the basement level into the superstructure. In their design, the architects at Delugan Meissl set out to create a place of sensuous experience that reflects the authenticity of Porsche products and services as well as the company’s character, while also reshaping Porscheplatz with an unmistakable appearance.

About 80 vehicles and many small exhibits will be on display at the new Porsche Museum in a unique ambience. In addition to world-famous, iconic vehicles such as the 356, 550, 911, and 917, the exhibits include some of the outstanding technical achievements of Professor Ferdinand Porsche from the early 20th century. Even then, the name of Porsche stood for the commitment never to be satisfied with a technical solution that fails to fully meet or exceed all of its requirements, including opportunities for further improvement.

From the lobby, visitors ascend a spectacular ramp to the entrance of the spacious exhibition area, where they can gain an initial overview of the impressive collection.

Here the visitor is free to choose whether to start chronologically with the company history before 1948, or to head directly into the main area of the exhibition, which contains a chronological history of Porsche products and thematic islands. Both areas are interlinked by the “Porsche Idea” section, which forms the backbone of the exhibition.

The Idea section explains what makes the various themes and exhibits so unique. It tells of the spirit and the passion that motivate the work at Porsche, and pays tribute to the company as well as the people behind the product.

Nintendo's touch-screen handheld gets a touch-up.

The Nintendo DSi is the third and newest member of the Nintendo DS family. While graphically unchanged, the DSi is slimmer than the DS Lite, with a faster processor, larger screens and built in camera.

The DSi is less a gaming gadget and more a lifestyle accessory. It has also fundamentally altered the way people view video games, making it something to be enjoyed by all ages and abilities.  “It’s more than a gaming system, and more of a personal tool to enrich our daily lives,” said a Nintendo spokesman.

The success of Nintendo’s DS and Wii consoles is due largely to the great library of games that users can choose from.  While old original gaming favourites such as 'Super Mario' still remain popular, the DSi allows users access to numerous different gadgets in one package.  These include an ebook reader, cooking guide and language coaches to help you learn a new language.

Users can also turn to the DSi to keep them into shape.  The 'My Health Coach' game comes with a free pedometer, which plugs in to a slot on the DS, and software to help measure, record and analyse your daily exercise regime. It even enables you to keep a tally of what you’ve eaten throughout the course of the day, and will suggest a nutritionally balanced menu for your next meal.

There is a Yoga game available as well as games designed to help improve your sight and reaction speeds, and quicken your mental sharpness. The DSi also promotes health and well being with games such as 'Stop Smoking with Allen Carr' providing a step-by-step personalised program to help you give up tobacco.
