Viva McLaren!
It was a charged and emotional day at the Grand Prix F1 races in Istabul this past Sunday…

As the light turned green, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren thundered off the starting line.

It was a battlefield line up for team Redbull: in the first place position was Mark Webber, world champion, with fellow driver Sebastian Vettel edging in on him on the 40th lap.

What better way to celebrate Hamilton’s 50 years behind the wheel than a double victory for his team?!

Michael Schumacher of Mercedes came in fourth. Felipe Massa of Ferrari took seventh while his teammate, Fernando Alonso, two-time world champion, took eighth. Not a top finish, but it noneless marked Ferrari's ’s 800th Grand Prix!

2010 is the year for Grand Prix world champions. Keep your eyes and ears open on June 11th, as the races moves to Montreal, Canada.

The New Porsche Cayenne
Even More Efficient, More Sporting and for the First Time with Hybrid Drive...

The absolute highlight of this new generation is the world debut of the Cayenne S Hybrid with its technically highly sophisticated parallel full hybrid drive and fuel consumption in the New European Driving Cycle of just 8.2 litres/100 kilometres (equal to 34.4 mpg imp), which means CO2 emissions of just 193 g/km. The Cayenne S Hybrid therefore combines the performance of an eight-cylinder with the economy of a six-cylinder running on much less fuel.

Led by the Cayenne S Hybrid, all models in the new generation are trendsetters in efficiency and performance in their respective segments. Compared with the former models, fuel consumption is down by up to 23 per cent, since the new Cayenne, like every Porsche, has been developed according to the principle of “Porsche Intelligent Performance”: more power on less fuel, greater efficiency and lower CO2 emissions.

These objectives result, not least, from the introduction of the new Tiptronic S eight-speed automatic transmission with Auto Start Stop and a wide spread of gear ratios, thermal management on the engine and transmission cooling circuit, on-board network recuperation, variable engine cut-off and intelligent lightweight construction.

Thanks to its special combination of materials for optimum weight as well as changes in the overall concept of the vehicle such as the Cayenne’s new active and extra-light all-wheel drive, weight is down for example on the Cayenne S by 180 kilos or 400 lb – despite the improvement of product substance and an even higher standard of safety. This clearly has very positive effects not just on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, but also on performance, agility and handling.

Benefiting from these features and new technologies, the new Cayenne offers even more driving pleasure both onroad and offroad, combined with even greater everyday driving qualities, enhanced comfort and supreme elegance. The completely new, sporting and elegant design of the new model integrates the 2010 Cayenne even more closely into the overall range of Porsche cars. The sports car-like character of the Cayenne comes out even more from all angles, just as the highlights in the shape and design of the car so typical of Porsche are also clearer than ever before.

Extra space inside and greater variability is ensured by the wheelbase now 40 mm or almost 1.6” longer. In all, the new Cayenne is 48 mm or 1.9” longer than its predecessor. But despite its larger exterior dimensions, the new generation of the Cayenne is nevertheless far more compact and dynamic. The most significant eye-catcher within the brand-new, high-quality interior is the centre console rising up to the front with its upright selector or gearshift lever, giving the interior the typical character of a cockpit upfront. The rear-seat bench moves fore-and-aft by 160 millimetres or 6.3”, with the backrest angle adjusting to three different settings.

Sales of the Cayenne in Europe are starting on 8 May, with Porsche offering the right model from the start for every customer: The range starts with the 3.6-litre V6 Cayenne. Despite the increase in engine power to 300 bhp, fuel consumption in the NEDC driving cycle in conjunction with optional eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission is down from the former model by no less than 20 per cent to 9.9 ltr/100 km, equal to 28.5 mpg imp.

The Cayenne Diesel with its 240 bhp (176 kW), 550 Newton-metre (405 lb-ft) three-litre V6 likewise reduces fuel consumption by 20 per cent, down from 9.3 to 7.4 ltr/100 km (equal to 30.4 mpg imp now improving to 38.2 mpg imp).

Fuel consumption is also down significantly on the high-torque Cayenne S with its 4.8-litre V8 power unit, in this case by 23 per cent to 10.5 litres/100 kilometres (equal to 26.9 mpg imp). At the same time the new engine delivers 400 bhp maximum output instead of the former 385 bhp, offering significantly better performance, just like all models in the new generation of the Cayenne.

This also applies to the Cayenne Turbo, with its 500 bhp (368 kW) 4.8-litre V8 biturbo consuming just 11.5 ltr/100 km (equal to 27.6 mpg imp) in the New European Driving Cycle, again 23 per cent less than its predecessor (14.9 ltr/100 km or 19.0 mpg imp).

Together with the Cayenne S Hybrid, no less than three of the five versions of the Cayenne thus consume less than ten litres of fuel per 100 km in the New European Driving Cycle, with two models emitting less than 200 grams of CO2 per kilometre. At 193 g/km, the Cayenne S Hybrid is not only the cleanest version of the Cayenne with the lowest level of emissions, but also the cleanest Porsche throughout the Company’s entire portfolio.

In the intelligent interaction of the three-litre supercharged V6 and the electric motor, the Cayenne S Hybrid focuses on maximum efficiency from the overall system. Depending on driving conditions, the vehicle reaches this target with either only one drive unit operating by itself or with both drive units working together. In this context the 34 kW (47 hp) electric motor is of course the ideal partner for the 333 hp compressor engine with its high torque at low speeds. Together, the two drive units deliver maximum system output of 380 bhp and peak torque of 580 Nm/427 lb-ft at just 1,000 rpm, with the same kind of performance as the Cayenne S with its V8 power unit.

The two drive units are connected to one another by a separator clutch masterminded by the Hybrid Manager. Indeed, this separator clutch is essential to run the Cayenne S Hybrid either on its electric motor or combustion engine alone, or with both drive units operating together. Given a reserved, moderate style of motoring, for example in a residential area, this allows the driver to cover short distances on electric power alone and therefore absolutely free of emissions and with hardly any noise, driving at a speed of up to 60 km/h or almost 40 mph.

To ensure fast acceleration when setting off, the electric motor may however serve to provide additional thrust through its boosting effect. Intelligent management of the separator clutch makes the transition among the hybrid-specific driving modes most inconspicuous, comfortable and quick for the driver. At the same time the combustion engine may be completely switched off at speeds of up to 156 km/h or 97 mph, being fully disengaged from the drivetrain when no further power is required. In this so-called sailing mode, cruising along without power, the drag forces exerted by the combustion engine and their braking effect are eliminated in the interest of lower drive resistance and fuel consumption.

Fiat 500 So Pink puts fashion victims on the run

Many rumors and unofficial photos have been circulating, but this time it's official, the Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet has been unveiled...

If the question was what’s under the hood, the answer is no surprise, it is hot! It opens and closes automatically of course, in less than 20 seconds and below a speed of 40 km/h. The convertible has 4 seats and a unique feature: the Airscape. This aims to reduce air and flow for the 4 passengers driven convertible and it is at the top of windshield. It complements the Airscarf, which, distributes warm air to the neck during cooler temperatures.

On the technical side, the E-Class Cabriolet incorporates the features of the coupe. There are therefore two diesels, the four-cylinder biturbo 250 CDI of 204 hp  and the 350 CDI V6 with 231 hp. And three gasoline powered vehicles, four-cylinder turbocharged 250 CGI 204 hp, the V6 350 CGI 292 hp and the V8 500 of 388 hp.

It was a daunting task for McLaren to meet or exceed expcetations when designing the sucessor to one of the greatest cars of this era, the F1. Their newest supercar, the MP4-12C promises to “re-write the rules of sports car design through Formula 1-inspired engineering, revolutionary chassis architecture, and absolute focus on efficiency.” Inspired engineering has led to the development of the midmounted bespoke V8 engine that will produce 600bhp from 3.8 twin-turbocharged liters. A pre-cog trasmission function helps prime the gearbox for an impending shift, leading to shift times to rival F1 cars. The chassis architecture that they speak of comes in the form of a 176lb one-piece chassis, a racing-derived piece dubbed the Carbon MonoCell.  Expect the MP4-12C to debut in 2011, .

The Vision EfficientDynamics might look like an escapee from the set of Tron but it represents the very latest in science fact. By maximising the efficiency of every aspect of the car’s conception, design and development, BMW has reached a more sustainable, more environmentally friendly and, most importantly, more dynamic conclusion.

It doesn’t feature a fancy hydrogen fuel-cell system; they may well power the cars of the future in the long term but the infrastructure and means of extracting large quantities of the gas is at least a decade away. In fact there’s little new about the technology used in the Vision EfficientDynamics, just the way it’s been applied.  The engine is a new 1.5-litre, three-cylinder turbo diesel, which produces 163bhp and 214lb-ft of torque –  There are also two electric motors helping the teeny engine shift the lean1395kg mass.  With a 0-62mph time of 4.8mph and an electronically limited top speed of 155mph, this thing is as fast as a BMW M3 yet thanks to the fact it can run on purely electricity, purely diesel or any combination of the two its CO2 emissions are just 99g/km – that’s the same as a Volkswagen Polo Bluemotion.

Chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk was keen to make sure the concept looked efficient. Aerodynamics have obviously played a big part in the way it looks – it has a drag coefficent of just 0.22Cd – but there's also a visual lightness to the car’s aesthetic, from the floating body panels to the huge polycarbonate glass doors and roof. But the really clever bit is that Adrian and his team have designed a radical car that is still instantly recognisable as a BMW.

Renowned yacht manufacturer Ferretti collaborated with Studio Zuccon International Project to produce the Ferretti 560, the latest offering in the company’s lineup of luxury vessels which represents the yacht (r)evolution conceived to experience a new feeling of life on board.  Powered by a pair of 900 horsepower V8 engines, the 560 is capable of cruising at 28 knots, and reaches its peak speed at 32 knots. The exterior design of the yacht reflects its performance capabilities- a steeply raked windshield and expansive glass flanking either side of the upper cabin engender a sleek and sporting appearance. The extensive use of windows also allows natural light to brighten living spaces and sleeping quarters. The 560 incorporates four separate sleeping quarters, with capacity for eight guests. The upper deck living space opens onto the lower exterior deck through a pair of sliding doors, where passengers enjoy ample seating and a full bar. Other exterior spaces include a sunning platform atop the bow and the obligatory fly bridge.

The Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce is the latest and most extreme variant of the Murcielago models. SV is short for super veloce (super fast) and is also one serious head turner.  In normal guise the Murcielago is something special but the SuperVeloce is an even more intoxicating blend of drama, power.The Lambo’s 6.5-litre V12 engine now develops 670bhp – up from 640bhp. And weight is reduced by 100kg with the introduction of carbon fibre bodywork, except for the steel roof and external door panels.  All this helps to contribute to a 0-62mph time of just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 212mph – making it the fastest ever production Lamborghini.

Mercedes-Benz and McLaren are adding the crowning glory to the model family of their highly successful SLR super sports car with a new, uncompromisingly spectacular car. There is neither a roof nor a windscreen to separate the driver and passenger from the outside world; they enjoy unadulterated high-speed excitement with all the attributes of a speedster.

The new SLR Stirling Moss is also characterised by the most sophisticated technology and a breathtaking design which reinterprets the SLR legend. With 478 kW/650 hp the SLR Stirling Moss accelerates its V8 supercharged engine from standstill to 100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 350 km/h – no other series-production car is at the same time so open and so fast. 300SL Panamericana
The Re-Birth of an Icon

Here is the the rebirth of an Icon, the 2009 300 SL Panamericana, based on a Reproduction from Hoope'r, Gullwing-AG in Germany, who produce the closest model you can get to the real thing. Arturo Alonso and his company, Gullwing-America , modified this already outstanding automobile into an exotic for the 21st century.

A combination of the Glorious Carrera Panamericana cars of the 50's and new technology, they came out with this incredible sports car, Alonso himself raced the Carrera for years in a Mercedes 300SE, where the passion for this legendary Race and the Mercedes was born.

The 300SL Panamericana keeps the retro stylings of the original Mercedes 300SL Gullwing - widely regarded as one of the best-looking cars of all time - but incorporates aircraft composite technology into the bodywork and the same 5.5-litre, 370bhp engine as the SLR and AMG models under the bonnet. And it's meant to be driven as well as admired, with little comforts such as an iPod-friendly radio (otherwise, the instrumentation remains pleasingly old-fashioned) and fitted leather luggage.

The cars will all be painted in silver with blue accents in the front fenders like the race cars of the Panamericana, there is the option of a white with red stripes and a Black version. The interiors will be red cover in leather and plaid cloth, typical from that model; The instrument panel is identical as the original 300Sl.

Gullwing-America thinks that this is a true rebirth of the legendary 300SL Gullwing. Updated with technology from 50 years later, the car will be more powerful and handle better than the original. It will be a very drivable car with all the convenient accessories like air conditioning, power steering, etc. from modern cars.

Until now, you could either have a 4-door car or a sports car.  The Panamera provides generous space for four passengers with luggage and has the dynamic look of a Porsche at the same time. Conceived and designed as a four-door grand touring sports car, the Panamera combines numerous talents in typical Porsche style: sporting driving dynamics, a generous and versatile interior, and the supreme driving comfort of a Gran Turismo. Joining the 911, Boxster and Cayman sports cars and the four-wheel drive Cayenne, the Panamera is officially the fourth Porsche model series.

The designers of the Panamera have succeeded in positioning this unique car as a brand-new and truly different model while nevertheless retaining the looks of a typical Porsche.  In its styling and details, the Panamera follows the design philosophy refined over decades on the 911 and successfully implemented also on the Boxster, Cayman and Cayenne.

Through its design language alone, the Panamera will establish a new segment versus the competition. The symbiosis of sports car DNA derived from the looks of a coupé, the unique interpretation of the classical saloon body, and the benefits of a versatile interior give the new Porsche its truly unmistakeable appearance.

The elegant roof arch extends stylishly over the generous interior, begging the beholder to get inside. Like all Porsche models, the Panamera is oriented in every respect to the needs and wishes of the driver. But now, courtesy of the new concept of space and the sporting architecture of the interior, the car’s occupants are also able to experience this special ‘pilot sensation’ from all four seats. Every occupant enjoys supreme ergonomic comfort in both the front seats and the two firmly contoured individual seats at the rear.

The luggage compartment easily takes every passenger’s baggage, the interior’s ‘variable space concept’ with its folding rear seat backrests enabling the driver and passengers to adjust the luggage space individually to their personal requirements. The coupé tailgate in the sporting rear end combines superior versatility for daily use with stylish elegance.

Porsche has developed superior and up-to-date power units for the Panamera which, as you would expect, reflect all the qualities typical of the brand – the V-engines within the engine compartment come with six and eight cylinders and range in power from 300 to 500 bhp. Some of the engines use turbocharger technology, Direct Fuel Injection making them both fuel-efficient and powerful all in one. The flow of power to the wheels goes either through a manual six-speed gearbox or the Porsche seven-speed Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK), or double-clutch gearbox.

In addition to featuring a sports-oriented rear-wheel drive chassis, the top version of the Panamera comes with even more sophisticated all-wheel drive arrangement. This is also available for the other versions as an option. As a further highlight, Porsche is preparing a particularly fuel-efficient version of the Panamera with hybrid drive.

The new four-door Porsche Panamera gran turismo will be making its world debut in spring 2009, and the first models will be arriving in Porsche Centres worldwide from late summer.
